Molybdenites from the Waifangshan area yield a mean Re–Os age of ~ 242 Ma. Waifangshan Mo-quartz vein cluster form an orogenic type Mo system in Qinling. Re contents of the molybdenite suggest the fluids were sourced from old crust. Continental arc to back-arc transitional area accommodates Waifangshan Mo deposit.
