Dynamics in affective valence and arousal were tracked by the brain. Default mode network and emotion regions track these dynamics in affective content. Brain-based tracking of emotion is disrupted in patients with anxiety and depression. Weakened brain-based tracking of emotion is linked to symptoms of emotional numbing.
