Microtensile testing of standalone γ-γ′ (40 μm thick) and β-(Ni,Pt)Al (50 μm thick) coatings carried out at RT and 870 °C. At RT, the γ-γ′ coating was strong and ductile whereas brittle fracture at low stress occurred in the β-(Ni,Pt)Al coating. At 870 ˚C, unlike the ductile β-(Ni,Pt)Al coating, the γ-γ′ coating exhibited intergranular fracture and limited ductility. The effect of the above bond coats on tensile behavior of CM-247LC DS superalloy has been comparatively examined. Brittle fracture of β-(Ni,Pt)Al and intergranular fracture of γ-γ′ coatings deteriorated the substrate tensile properties.
