Solar photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) over Fe(III) in the presence of organic sacrificial agents

Cr(VI) reduction was achieved over Fe(III)-OH complexes using solar light.

The presence of citric acid enhanced Cr(VI) reduction by the Fe(III)/UV system.

Maximum Cr(VI) removal rate was attained for Cr(VI):citric molar ratio of 1:3.

The Fe(III)/UVA–vis/citric acid system allowed Cr(VI) reduction at neutral pH.

Total Cr(VI) reduction in a real galvanic effluent was achieved after 30 min.
