Most of the seismicity trends to the SE connecting with a N-S zone of seismicity offshore southern Tanzania and Mozambique.
A lesser amount of seismicity is found extending towards Lake Nyasa.
The finding indicates SE propagation of the Eastern branch of the EARS along the northern boundary of the Ruvuma microplate.
Focal mechanisms show normal and strike slip faulting consistent with geologic faults and rotation of the Ruvuma microplate.
