Accurate models of epoxy resin cure reactions areessential for intelligent processing of polymermatrix composites. In this study, two model systems forepoxy-amine reactions, phenyl glycidylether with aniline and with m-phenylenediamine, were studiedvia in situ near-infraredspectroscopy. The quality of the near-IR spectra enablesconcentrations of individual chemicalspecies to be obtained in real time. A mechanistic model wasproposed, and the correspondingkinetic parameters were evaluated. Excellent agreement wasobserved between the proposedmechanistic model and the experimental results. Substitutioneffects were found insignificantwith both systems studied.
