Among liver diseases due to cardiovascular pathology, four are of main interest: ischemic hepatitis (due to a lack of blood flow), liver involvement in heatstroke (which can be understood as a form of ischemic hepatitis), congestive hepatopathy due to heart failure and hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia which show alterations in hepatic vasculature.
Diagnosis of these entities is mainly clinical, but imaging techniques provide additional information. Treatment and prognosis of ischemic hepatitis and congestive hepatopathy depends on the underlying cause. In case of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia treatment addresses both symptoms and vascular shunts.
