摘要
For even the most primitive microbes, the activation and regulation of biosynthesis is guided by material transport about the cell. It is within these transactions that secondary metabolite biosynthesis orchestrates a key set of chemical transformations. Cellular factors are often as important to the regulation of biosynthesis as the structures of their metabolites and the mechanism of their biosynthesis. In accord with this issue on biologically-inspired synthesis, this manuscript evaluates the adaptation of cells as tools to direct the synthesis of fluorescent nonribosomal peptide-based probes.
