Since its emergence in 1986, STEM(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education research in America has attracted great attention all over the world after more than 30 years of development. Firstly, through literature analysis, the development processes of STEM education research in America were divided into the initial stage, flourishing stage and expanding stage. Meanwhile, the specific situations of STEM education research in each stage were summarized with examples. Then, the characteristics of STEM education research in America were analyzed from three dimensions of research logic, research idea and research orientation. Finally, the enlightenment of STEM education research in America on our country was investigated from three aspects of theoretical discussion, top-level design and empirical exploration, expecting to provide reference for the research and development of STEM education in our country.
