Heteroecious life cycles and taxonomy of two Aecidium species in China

Life cycles and taxonomic treatments of two Aecidium species collected in Jilin Province,China were clarified through field observations,inoculation experiments and morphological observations.(1) A.adenocauli:The life cycle of this rust fungus has been reported in Japan,but it has not been proved in China.Its life cycle connection between spermogonial(0) and aecial(I) stages on Adenocaulon himalaicum,and uredinial(II) and telial(III) stages on Carex onoei was proved.Carex onoei is a new host for this rust fungus.This rust fungus was formerly described as Puccinia carici-adenocauli in Japan based on II and III stages(teleomorph).However,its new combination,P.adenocauli was proposed for this species based on its legitimate I stage name(anamorphic name).(2) A.klugkistianum:This rust fungus is widely distributed in East Asia,but its life cycle was unknown.The life cycle connection between 0 and I stages on Ligustrum obtusiforium,and II and III stages on a species of Gramineae was proved.II and III stages were morphologically belonging to the genus Puccinia.This is the first reports of a Puccinia species alternating between Ligustrum and Gramineae.New species name will be proposed based on its legitimate name,A.klugkistianum.
