In order to win the Cold War,the U.S.was eager to learn about the other regions other than Europe. This is why regional studies arose in the U.S.With the development of civil rights movement and U.S.-Africa relations,African studies had taken a lion's share of regional studies in U.S.universities.African studies in U.S.higher education institutions grew fast with the assistance of famous private funds(e.g.the Ford Foundation) and National Defense Education Act.Moreover, universities and colleges developed their own edges in African studies.Due to the Cold War,African studies in the U.S.were primarily located in the white universities. This area of research covered the humanities and social sciences such as linguistics, history, pedagogy and legal science.Furthermore, interdisciplinary programs were set up to promote African studies.U.S.high education institutions also underscored the cooperation with universities an"d colleges in African countries.
