普拉斯诗歌意象研究

摘要
西尔维娅·普拉斯是美国自白派诗歌的重要代表,她以极富感染力的“意象”给诗歌王国添上了浓墨重彩的一笔。本文拟从意象角度切入,以普拉斯的诗歌文本为主要研究对象,立足性别视角,运用生态批评、心理分析等研究方法,重点考察审美主体投注于意象符号之中的审美体验,在此基础上呈现普拉斯诗歌中意象符号在思想内涵和艺术形式方面的审美价值。
本论文共由六个部分组成：
第一章绪论部分主要交代论文的选题动机、研究对象,梳理与本课题相关的国内外研究成果,阐明本论文的基本目标和研究路径。
第二章首先通过对意象概念的梳理,指出自白派诗歌与意象派诗歌之间的关联；接着从具体的诗歌文本入手,论证自白派诗人对诗歌“意象”的热衷以及自白派诗歌对意象派诗歌格律和音乐性的淡漠；最后,论述自白派诗歌对诗歌“意象”的贡献及对诗歌形式发展的贡献。
第三章论述普拉斯诗歌中“镜子”意象与女性存在之思的审美融合。根据拉康的理论,“镜子”意象从根本上来说是对个体存在状态的投射。普拉斯笔下的镜意象一方面映射了抒情主人公对生命个体的存在之思,在“揽镜自观”的同时,诗人完成了抒情主体对女性身份及主体人格的自我认定；另一方面,诗人在关注“小我”的同时,更多地将目光投射在社会这面大镜子上,积极地参与到社会政治事务中去,表达自己对人类社会的关切。
第四章探讨的是普拉斯诗歌中的“色彩”意象的审美特质。普拉斯对色彩有着天生的敏感,她深谙绘画艺术对色彩的使用技巧,并将这种领悟运用到诗歌创作中表达其独特的生命体验。无论是代表生命之维的“红”,还是象征死亡之隅的“黑”,抑或是幻化虚无的“白”,都表达了诗人独特的内心体验。
第五章阐释普拉斯诗歌中的自然意象。分别从“海洋意象”、“动物意象”、“植物意象”三个方面探讨普拉斯诗歌中的人与自然的关系,以及这些自然意象所折射出的诗人的生态之思。
第六章结语部分在总结上文研究的基础上,认为：首先,普拉斯从英语诗歌传统中继承了“意象”这一诗歌创作的核心元素,并在自己的创作实践中发展了“意象”的内涵,丰富了英语诗歌的形式；其次,普拉斯在“揽镜自观”的过程中,关注的不仅仅是个体的生命体验,更多的是对社会的、对全人类的关切。
Sylvia Plath, one of the significant representatives of Confessional Poetry, whose extremely appealing "images" have contributed highlights to the kingdom of poetry. Taking Plath's poem as study object, the dissertation cuts in from the aspect of images on the base of gender consciousness, applying research methods such as eco-criticism, psychoanalysis, gender criticism and archetypal criticism to focus on the examination of aesthetic experience projected into the symbol of images by the aesthetic subject. It aims at presenting the aesthetic value of the symbol of image in Plath's poetry in terms of ideological implication as well as artistic form.
The present dissertation consists of the following six parts:
Chapter One the introduction part provides a brief history of Plath Studies both at home and abroad, including the motivation of the selected topic and the research subject. It also expounds the elementary object and research approach of the dissertation.
Chapter Two firstly seeks to point out the correlations between Confessional Poetry and Imagist Poetry by presenting the concept of Image; secondly, starting from the concrete poetry text, it demonstrates confessional poets'enthusiasm about the "Image" of poetry and their apathy about the rules and forms as well as musicality in Imagist Poetry. Finally, it demonstrates the contribution of Confessional Poetry to the symbol of "Image" and the development of English poetic form.
Chapter Three deals with the aesthetic harmony between the "Mirror" image and the thought of female existence in Plath's poetry. According to Lacanian theory,"Mirror" image is fundamentally a kind of projecting of individual existing state. The "Mirror" image in Plath's poetry, on the one hand, projects the lyric protagonist's thought over individual life existence, while looking into the mirror, the poet accomplished lyric protagonist's self-identity of female identity and subject personality; on the other hand, while paying close attention to "individual I", the poet cast more vision on the mirror of society, taking an active part in social political affairs and showing her concern over human society.
Chapter Four probes into the aesthetic characteristics of "Color" image in Plath's poetry. Plath was sensitive to color inherently and familiar with skills of art of painting to apply color, and she applied the comprehension to her poetry creation to express her unique life experience. Whether it is the "red" representing the dimension of life, or the "black" the border of death, or the "white" the fantastic transformation of nihility, they all express the poet's peculiar inner experience.
Chapter Five interprets the natural images in Plath's poetry. It investigates the relationship between human being and nature revealed in Plath's poetry from the aspects of "ocean imagery","animal imagery" and "botanical imagery" and the poet's ecological thought projected through these natural images.
Chapter Six is the conclusion of the dissertation, on the basis of summarizing the study mentioned above, points out firstly that Plath carried forward the core element of "image" in poetry creation and developed its connotation in her own poetry creation, therefore enriched the English poetic form; secondly, while "looking into the mirror to observe herself", what Plath was concerned about is not only the individual life experience but more about the society and all humanity.
