In order to understand the mechanical characteristics and burst-prone nature of Upper Triassic Xujiahe (T₃xj⁶) sandstone in Yongchuan coal mine, experiments were conducted using MTS815 rock testing system made in U.S. Indexes of burst-prone were analyzed using the area tool in Origin7.5, which avoided the shortcomings of low precision in area calculation under peak. Results of the experiments indicated that the T₃xj⁶ sandstone has low mechanical characteristics, showing a low Young’s modulus, medium strength and plastic deformation.T₃xj⁶ sandstone was burst-prone, but normally fair and locally intensive.
