The geo-environmental problems during the urbanization process of Huai’an City are summarized, after an analysis of its basic geo-environmental characteristics. The geo-environmental problems include earthquake, ground-water decline, land subsidence, water pollution, solid waste, ground deformation, soft clay deformation and soil-liquefaction foundation. Their causes are analyzed in terms of geology and urbanization, and, accordingly, countermeasures are proposed to prevent them.
