Transform of Jurassic Tectonic Configuration of South China Block: Evidence from U-Pb Ages of Detrital Zircons
详细信息
摘要

Although the change of tectonic configuration of South China block from Tethys during Indosinian to Pacific tectonic regime in Yanshanian had an important effect on evolution of the South China Block, the debate on specific time of this change still remains. Additionally, emphasis of the geological evolution and sedimentary features of the east Guangdong in early to the middle Jurassic is scarce. To end this controversy, detrital zircon LA-ICP-MS dating was carried on the lower and middle Jurassic sequences of east Guangdong, South China. The results display a major peak of 240 Ma for the lower Jurassic samples, and a peak in range 180-170 Ma for the middle Jurassic samples. Zircon geochronology comparison of potential source areas indicated that the main provenance of the early Jurassic is likely derived from southwestern/southern margin of South China Block, but it changed to the east of the Nanling Range during the middle Jurassic. The change of prime age peak from the Indosinian of early Jurassic to the Yanshanian age peak of the middle Jurassic and the transition of majority depositional provenance area probably mirror the change of the tectonic configuration of the South China Block in the early Mesozoic, maybe this change accomplished around 180 Ma. Correspondingly, the South China block experienced Indosinian tectonic compression in the early Jurassic and extensional movement in the middle Jurassic. The east Guangdong sedimentary basin shows similar tectonic characteristics of the foreland-basin in the early Jurassic, like the formation mechanism of the Hefei basin, and it became extensional rift basin in the middle Jurassic.
