THE nomenclature in use in the Dominion for the suumvisions of the Tertiary rocks is an extension of the scheme proposed byJ. Allan Thomson in 1916. Marshall’s alternative classification(1916, 1919), based upon the percentage of Recent species, has notbeen adopted by subsequent workers.
