Samples of mudstone kerogen from Hailar Basin, Inner Mongolia, were analyzed by 13C NMR with the techniques of cross polarization, magic angle spinning, and dipolar dephasing. The immature kerogens, depending on the type of parent materials, have significant difference in the compositions and structure parameters in their aromatic carbons, aliphatic carbons and the carbons attached to oxygen. The characteristics provided information on the organic precursor and potentials for generation of hydrocarbon of kerogens.
