Mesozoic magmatic-hydrothermal iron oxide deposits (IOCG ‘clan’) in Mexico: A review

文摘
There may have an unfathomed potential for magmatic-hydrothermal iron oxide (MHIO) deposits in Mexico in association with Mesozoic intrusions. MHIO deposits are preferentially distributed in northwestern and southwestern-southern Mexico. The known Mesozoic MHIO deposits in Mexico show characteristics of either Kiruna-type, iron skarn, and IOCG deposits. MHIO deposits are mostly associated with gabbroic, dioritic and/or monzonitic intrusions, with either calc-alkaline or tholeiitic affinities. The above points to an extensional environment in a continental arc setting (intra-arc?). MHIO deposits in Baja California formed in association with the Peninsular Ranges batholithic belt, and are smaller than those in southwestern Mexico. The Mesozoic MHIO deposits in Mexico occur in subduction-related continental margins (Andean-type setting). Mexican MHIO deposits near the paleo subduction trench formed between the Early Cretaceous and the Eocene.
