Mind wandering, which is a common phenomenon in daily life, refers that individuals transfer the thought processes from the current task activities to the self-generated thoughts and feelings. The cognitive neural mechanism on mind wandering is still unclear.Functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) plays an important role in understanding the cognitive neural mechanisms of mind wandering. This paper presents a systematic review of fMRI studies on mind wandering, focusing on the following aspects: task-related fMRI on mind wandering, the correlation between resting-state fMRI and mind wandering.
