As a representative work of the prominent Chinese American writer, Lisa See, Shanghai Girls, through protagonist Pearl's first person narrative, delineates magnificent historical events like Japanese Aggression Against China, representing the mental trauma that Chinese American undergoes in this period. Although suffering from those ghost-like traumatic memories, Pearl and her family accomplish the cure of trauma by narration and witness which re-associates these isolated individuals with the collective.
