Simplified Horizontal Slice Method of Reinforced Soil Slopes Safety Analysis

摘要
In the analysis of the factor of safety of reinforced soil fill slopes, the horizontal tension forces of reinforcing elements and seismic forces cannot be considered properly for common vertical slice methods and the result is a little conservative. The proposed horizontal slice method, which is based on the Morgenstern-Price Method, complies strictly with the limit equilibrium condition, but both of the factor of safety and the scaling factor must be computed iteratively, which makes the method too complex to be popularized in the engineering design. In this paper, the expression of the factor of safety of the simplified horizontal slice method is based on the assumption of inter-slice tangential force Xi made by Janbu, and the simplified calculation of inter-slice normal force Ei,which should be computed iteratively just for the factor of safety, makes the computational process simpler and clearer. Two cases of reinforced soil slopes are analyzed by using the Bishop vertical slice method. The simplified horizontal slice method is proposed in this paper and the computation results are compared. The result shows that the proposed method is rational and simple to use.
