An 1:10000 geological survey is conducted in the southern slope of Qaidam basin, followed by an 1:10000 soil geochemical measurement on the basis of understanding its geological characteristics. Six kinds of test elements are analyzed, and geochemical anomalies of element content are delineated by using the fractal content-area method. Characteristics of element combination are analyzed using the factor analysis method, and combination and integrated anomalies are finally determined. The results show that the distribution of An, As and Sb is quite similar, and areas with high content values are mainly concentrated in the Permian strata. The elements of Au and As relatively set better. The distribution of Cu, Pb and Zn exhibits both com- monness and differences. The elements of Cu and Zn relatively set better, for which the areas with high content values are mainly concentrated in the Silu- rian strata. We validated the anomalies using the exploratory trench engineering, and delineated a target area for gold and a target area for copper. It can provide beneficial basis for the future prospecting work in this region.
