The authors discuss the studies and developments of fossil plant cuticles for last 30 years in China. Three main research directions of cuticular analysis are: 1) studies on epidermal microstructure of fossil plants; 2) investigations on relationship among the atmospheric CO2, climatic change, and stomatal parameters of fossil plants; and 3) discussions on the geochemical characteristics of fossil cuticles. A number of case studies are presented and prospects of fossil plant cuticle studies proposed.
