摘要
Based on findings of the investigation of geohazards caused by Wenchuan earthquake 2008, this paper examined five experiences relevant to the seismicity risk in Hong Kong. Although there are major faults in Hong Kong, these faults are located in relative intact granitic and volcanic rocks with deep roots. The deep ground rock bodies do not have the possibility to form huge traps for storing and accumulating natural gas. The region does not have the sufficient condition to occur strong earthquakes. The rock types, the surrounding and internal sea water, the nearby islands and the water in drinking water tanks on top of high-rise buildings in Hong Kong are assets to reduce seismic hazards in Hong Kong.
