Auger Electron Spectroscopy Analysis of Shangfanggou Molybdenite

The surface chemical composition and surface conformation of the molybdenite in the primary mineral,the flotation concentrate and the flotation tailing of Shangfanggou molybdenite and Sandaozhuang molybdenum which is easy to be separated were studied by using AES and SEM.The results show that the surface of Shangfanggou molybdenite is lader-like and oxidized. As a contrast,the surface of Sandaozhuang molybdenite is flat,with low degree of oxidation. The lader-like surface will increase the ratio polar face in the surface of molybdenum. The surface oxidation will increase the surface energy,and change the hydrophobicity of molybdenum surface. But all of above will decrease the floatability of the molybdenum. Therefore the lader-like surface and surface oxidation are main factors making the flotation of Shangfanggou molybdenum very difficult.
