///This paper dealt with the Wudang soil profile and explored the relations between terra rossa,the basement rock (the Tongzi Formation dolomite) and the overlying strata (the Honghuayuan Formation limestone and the lower Meitan Formation clastic rock).The results showed that the acid-insoluble substances in carbonate rocks are dominated by quartz,and both terra rossa and clastic rock have similar mineral assemblage characteristics. Major element and trace element evidence indicated that acid-insoluble substances in the Meitan Formation clastic rock,the Honghuayuan Formation limestone and the Tongzi Formation dolomite all provided material sources for the formation of terro rossa.
