摘要
A survey found that there are a great number of joints developed in Upper Pleistocene clay in the Hefei area, which occur in group,and in different intersecting and mating relations. Based on statistic analysis of tremendous survey data and the rose pattern drawn for joint at each survey point, this paper made a comparing analysis of joint development and fault distribution one by one, and results indicated that the widespread joints developed in the clay in the area are related to the occurrences of major faults nearing the site. The rose pattern of trendings suggests that the dominant orientation of joints is in line with the major fault trending in the vicinity. In case of intersection of more faults about the site, the joints in soil layer are characterized by the relative dominance of NW trending.
