摘要

The TEX 86 (TetraEther indeX of tetraether consisting of 86 carbon atoms) is a new palaeothermometer of reconstructions for the past sea-surface temperatures (SST) and lake-surface temperatures (LST). It is confidently free from the effects of proxies changing on salinity and nutrient in the water-column, and then is used extensively on the palaeo-temperature explorations, especially, in the deposit basins lacking of carbonates and foraminifera and in the rocks earlier to the strata of Aptian Stage of Cretaceous. In this paper, the authors try to introduce basically the information of isoprenoid GDGTs’ structures and its source organisms for TEX 86 index analysis, and including its principles, analyzing methods, applications and its shortages as well.
