摘要
Coevolution relationship exists between sponges and associated symbacteria. In this study, the authors used the method of relaxed molecular clock to date the divergence times of sponge-specific bacteria lineages based on the mitochondrial 16S rDNA data. The results show that most of the groups of sponge-specific bacteria diverged during Neoproterozoic (800~1 000 Ma), which is in accordance with the evidences of sponge biomarkers and the molecular dates of sponges,suggesting the exact coevolution between sponges and the sponge-specific symbacteria. However, because of the bias of sample in this study, the divergence times of some other groups caculated were out of expectation and should be further estimated in the future studies.
