By means of the qualitative and quantitative analysis, the monatomic sulfur and its geochemical characteristics from different kinds of the marine source rocks in Northeast Sichuan Basin were studied. The qualitative analysis results indicate that the monatomic sulfur from the marine source rocks are composed of S6 and S8, which belong to the allotrope sulfur with circular molecule structure, and of the 2 types, the S8 is generally richer than S6 in studied samples. The monatomic sulfur contents of the marine source rocks have very wide distribution interval ranging from 0.91×10-6 to 375.88×10-6(0.001 kg/t~0.376 kg/t). According to comparative analysis of the contents of the monatomic sulfur and total sulfur, rich organic sulfides occur in different kinds of the marine source rocks in the Northeast Sichuan Basin.
