A systematic study of the Nanhuan System in Guizhou Province shows that two lithostratigraph- ic regions can be recognized: the Yangtze region and Jiangnan region, based on the distribution and development of Nanhuan strata, lithofacies, palaeogeography, and paleoclimates. The Jiangnan region consists of the Jinping-Rongjiang subregion and the Songtao-Danzhai subregion. The Nanhuan System of Guizhou Province can be divided using a combination of lithostratigraphic and climatic stratigraphic tools. A stratigraphic correlation scheme has been proposed to correlate the Nanhuan System in Guizhou and Cryogenian strata in adjacent provinces, Canada, and Australia.
