Land subsidence has developed one of the main geological hazards in Tianjin City. Differential ground settlement has threatened the safety of the embankment which has fissures and leakage funnels. For purpose of controlling the subsidence of the embankment, the effects of the subsidence are discussed with two case studies which are embankment of Haihe River and lower reaches of Jiyunhe River using long-term data of the subsidence. Some countermeasures are suggested to protect the embankment and to decrease the losses caused by the subsidence.
