The coastal plains in Zhejiang Province occurs increasingly severe land subsidence due to extensive groundwater exploitation. The sea level rise in Zhejiang Province will be 88~140 mm by the year 2030. The superposition of sea level rise and land subsidence will result in damaging the ecosystems, undermining the capacity of public drainage facilities, increasing storms, floods, seawater intrusions and soil salinization, and impairing the functions of harbors. To address the disaster chain, the monitoring of sea level rise and land subsidence should be strengthened, and a system used to monitor, forecast, analyze and evaluate the disasters should be established.
