The studied area is located in the central part of the Hebei Plain. It is found to be polluted by petrochemical enterprises. The authors start with the work in the following aspects: survey of the distribution of the pollution sources, hydrogeological exploration, soil and groundwater field investigation, etc. From the survey and analysis results, the authors come to the conclusion that the soil and groundwater in the whole site was contaminated at different levels, the depth of contaminated soil is 30 m below the land surface and organic pollutants can be found in the groundwater at a depth of 50 m. The soil pollution site is characterized by high concentrations of BETX and alkyl halides in soil or groundwater.
