The relationship between seismic wave velocity and geologic age in basins is analyzed. It is pointed out that due to the different deposition rate, hydrothermal fluids during the diagenesis, uncomformable surface and the complex geologic structures and so on,seismic wave velocity and geological age are not related in origin. The stratigraphic and basement ages calculated with the seismic velocity-age formula are significantly different from the ages determined by isotopic methods, and the calculated ages are non-scientific and meaningless geologically.
