The main diagenesis of the Yanchang Formation sandstone reservoirs in the Fuxian-Zhengning area, Ordos Basin, includes compaction, cementation, corrosion and fracturation, and diagenetic authigenic minerals in these reservoirs are dominated by chlorite, authigenetic quartz and calcite. Integrated with salinity and density analyses, the authors suggested a “one-stage and two-episode” model for the major accumulation of hydrocarbons in the Yanchang Formation of the study area, which is characterized by “compacting while charging”. Analytical data of fluid inclusions and illitic K-Ar isotope dating, combined with burial history, also showed that the late stage of Early Cretaceous (120~95 Ma B.P.) is the major period of hydrocarbon accumulations in the Fuxian-Zhengning area.
