///Based on the national earthquake catalog database, this paper sorted out more than M<SUB>S5.0 earthquake information in western region of China. Using information diffusion theory, the paper assessed the seismic risk of western twelve provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in two aspects of annual earthquake frequency and annual maximum earthquake. On this basis, curved fitting the discrete values of the risk estimate, made a systematic review for the distribution trends and differences of seismic risk in the five provinces of China which are the most earthquake-prone, revealed quantificationally the seismic risk in western China.
