As a famous area of abundant fossil dinosaur’s emergence, 34 genera and 46 species of Jurassic vertebrates have been discovered and recognized so far in Zigong City of Sichuan Province. There existed three assemblages of dinosaurian fauna with different phases in Zigong. First of all, the budding period with a characteristic of coexistence of prosauropods and original sauropods, belongs to Lufengosaurus-Fauna during Early Jurassic. Secondly, Shunosaurus-fauna with transitional characters became a figure of the flourishing period. Thirdly, Mamenchisaurus-Fauna became an indication of a period of great prosperity. It was characteristic of the preponderant plesiochelyids, disappeared original sauropods, specialized long-necked manmenchisaurids as a main member, good-sized carnosaurs, ornithopods and stegosaurs during Late Jurassic Period. It is concluded that the flourishing and evolution of the Jurassic dinosaurian fauna in Zigong area was closely related with the change of paleo-geographical environment and paleo climate in Sichuan Basin.
