The spectroscopic characteristics and metamict degree of zircons from Changle in Shandong are discussed by using LA - Raman spectra, IR absorption spectra and gemological characteristics. LA - Raman spectra show that the zircons are crystalloid zircons and weak-metamict zircons, because H/W ratios ( 1 007 cm-1) are higher than 600 (625 -5 412 ) with one exception(441 ). It can be concluded that the zircons are crystalloid zircons; the gemological characteristics are also similar to the crystalloid zircon. All the experiments above hold that the samples are typically the high-type zircon and metamict coefficient of zircons becomes bigger notably and crystallinity is improved after heat-treatment in reducing atmosphere.
