The Jishan iron ore deposit is one of the important deposits in Ningwu volcanic basin. Ore bodies occur mainly in the gabbro-diorite porphyrite pluton. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb dating shows that the petrogenetic age of the gabbro-diorite porphyrite pluton is (130.0±1.0) Ma. In combination with geological survey and the previous studies, the authors hold that the metallogenic age of the Jishan iron ore deposit was about 130 Ma or later. The single age (1885±14) Ma in the chronologic research is consistent with the age of the Yangtze craton basement, suggesting that the Early Proterozoic basement may exist in Ningwu Basin. The geodynamic setting corresponding to the diorite porphyrite pluton and the porphyrite-type iron deposit in Jishan was the large-scale Mesozoic lithospheric thinning event in eastern China.
