Geological Characteristics of the Yushan Bauxite Deposit in Xin' an County, Henan Province

摘要
The Yushan bauxite deposit is a typical concealed bauxite deposit in western Henan Province. Taking the western Yushan mine section as an example, this paper studied its characteristics of the deposit geology, orebody and ores systematically. The bauxite orebody occurs in the aluminiferous rock system of the Carboniferous Benxi Formation. The morphology of the orebody is controlled by karst terrain upon the underlying Majiagou Formation. The Jiazigou anticline and faults control the deep extension of the orebody, and the overlying strata decide the burial depth of the orebody. The orebody thickness varies greatly. The relationship between A/S and the thickness of the aluminiferous rock system is weak, as is the same with the relationship be- tween A/S and the orebody thickness. The ores mainly display oolitic and argillaceous textures, and a few with ooid-in-pistol texture. This may suggest a recombination between weathering and transportation occurring during the ore formation. The dominant Al-bearing minerals include diaspore (42% - 88 % ) and clay minerals (kaolinite and illinite). Pyrite and siderite are widely distributed in the lower part of the orebody, revealing that the ores were formed in a reducing karst depression. The paragenetic and associated minerals and elements within the bauxite have a great commercial value. This paper has an important reference value for the further study of concealed bauxite deposits in Henan Province.
