A study of diagenesis and fluid inclusions for the Upper Paleozoic sandstone in the Ordos Basin indicates that fluid inclusions in various authigenic minerals and cements are different in composition and physical and chemical property which is direct criteria for evolution of petroleum reservoir.  This paper makes an approach to the application of fluid inclusion geochemistry to formation and evolution of petroleum reservoir in the northwest Ordos Basin.
