The authors recently reinvestigated the Doushantuo Formation in Baizhu, Baokang, Hubei Province and systematically collected samples to do examination. Besides the discovery of the above microfossils, the authors also found large acanthomorphic acritarchs Papillomembranacompta, Appenendisphaera sp., globular microfossil Megasphaera inornata, Megaclonophycus onustus and most common filament Salome hubeiensis in the Yangtze Gorges. Studies demonstrate that the fossiliferous horizon of the Doushantuo Formation reported here is roughly equivalent to the 2nd Member of the Doushantuo Formation in the Yangtze Gorges and the upper phosphate-rich strata of the Doushantuo Formation in Weng’an area. These new data further prove that the lower assemblage composed of multicelular algae, large acanthomorphic acritarchs, globular microfossils, coccoidal and filamentous cyanobacteria found in the 2nd Member in the Yangtze Gorges has a wide distribution and stable horizon.
