New Trends of Sequence-Stratigraphy in the Early 21st. Century
详细信息
摘要

Sequence-stratigraphy is an independent discipline that emphasizes the division and correlation of sedimentary rocks in a chronological framework. Some geologists, under the leadership and guidance of Octavian Catuneanu, have begun to develop standardized sequence-stratigraphy, and have redefined sequence as  “a succession of strata deposited during a full cycle of change in accommodation or sediment supply”. They also proposed a model-independent work flow——a standardized approach focusing on system tracts and sequence stratigraphic surfaces, with the choice of stratigraphic models based on available data. Regardless of whether the standardization can lead to a stratigraphic code or guide for sequence-stratigraphy, this is an endeavor to search a common ground in the complex and incomplete sedimentary records, and can provide significant clues for future study.
