In the experiment, the authors discovered and validated that the nonequilibrium retardation factor (R=u/v) is a capacity property of the system, the value of R is a linear function of seepage length (L) and affected by time. At the same time, the authors considered that R and Kd have no quantity relationship, because it is designated that Rd is equal to 1+(Kd•ρb/ne),and it is an equilibrium retardation factor, belonging to a intensity property. In practical application, when the groundwater is contaminated by a continuum source, R is used and when the groundwater is contaminated by an instantaneous source, Rd is used.
