Several blackshale beds have been discovered in the intermediate member of the Early Cretaceous Liupanshan Group. Analysis of the elemental geochemistry of a blackshale bed shows that it formed in a wet and hot environment. The variation of its geochemistry is consistent with the typical blackshale of oceanic anoxic setting, and indicative of the blackshale here having been deposited in an anoxic environment. It suggests that the blackshale in Liupanshan Group probably is the response to the OAE1b in the Liupanshan area.
