Underground storage of CO2 could be effective in reducing amount of CO2 emission from human activities into the atmosphere and thus alleviating the growing problem of global climate change. There are a huge volume of salt water aquifers in the depth of a sedimentary basin which may be used for storing large amount of CO2. The study shows feasible geological storage of CO2 in the Songliao Basin with the capacity of CO2 storage of about 8.96×109 t as many as about 25 times as large as emission amount of the mainland in 2003.
