The tidal Coulomb failure stresses (TCFS) on various kinds of seismic faults are calculated and their latitudinal characters are studied. The authors compute tidal Coulomb failure stresses at shock-occurring times on 20 395 earthquake faults and analyze the latitudinal distribution of various types of nature seismic faults that are slip-encouraged by TCFS. The results show that the features of tidal failure stress are closely correlated with fault type, fault strike and fault location. The TCFS variation properties are different on various kinds of fault during the same period. And there are obvious differences in amplitudes and signs of TCFS on same kind fault at different latitudinal regions.
