摘要
Cement is one of those basic commodities Americans take for granted as they do air and water, The raw materials required for its manufacture are largely common rocks, limestone and shale, and it would seem that geological skills are unnecessary to find new reserves. Perhaps only the most casual knowledge of geology would have been adequate to keep the cement plants operating at capacity for the indefinite future if cement technology and world population had leveled off in 1940.
