摘要

In 1892 Edward S. Dana published the sixth edition of his father’s System of Mineralogy, dating from 1837. In the preface to the work, followed as it is by excerpts from the prefaces of the preceding editions, Dana gave in briefest outline the history of the successive changes that the development of the science had brought about.
